Results of the TextGrid Advisory Board Meeting on July 2nd, 2010
The TextGrid advisory board, comprising technologists and subject-specific experts, met on July 2nd, 2010 in Göttingen in order to discuss the latest status of development. The board confirmed the priorities of TextGrid concerning future development, focus and objectives.
The primary focus was the presentation of the roadmap for a productive and stable TextGrid version 1.0 in February 2011. The proposed roadmap contains detailed development plans for tools and services and the TextGrid repository, with the concentration on providing key features now and incorporating additional functionalities at a later stage. As more research groups become interested in working with TextGrid, their concrete demands should be answered immediately. At the same time TextGrid aims to lay the basis for further development. Feedback to the roadmap was positive, and the advisory board underlined its support for the project’s next stages. TextGrid will publish further information about the planned version 1.0 and a release workshop in the near future.
A live presentation of the latest beta version of the TextGridLab as well as three specific use cases (the MEISE editor for encoding music, the Digital Library, and the SAWS project analyzing Greek and Arabic sayings from the 9th-12th centuries) provided concrete scenarios and generated discussion.
