TextGrid Work Packages

The TextGrid research project is structured by the following work packages (WP):

WP1 - TextGrid Repository

Responsible Partner: Goettingen State and University Library

This work package aims to advance the development of a long-term archive for research data in the humanities. It will be based on prototypical developments that are expected to be achieved within the related research project WissGrid. Specific services for long term archiving will be conceptualized.

WP 1.1: Development of a generic research data repository: incorporation with WissGrid
WP 1.2: TextGrid specific adjustments
WP 1.3: Cooperation scenarios with eSciDoc

WP2 - TextGrid Laboratory

Responsible Partner: University of Trier, Competence Centre for Electronic Text Processing and Publication in the Humanities

This WP aims to assure the technical sustainability - i.e., warranty of a solid production environment - including the improvement and maintenance of the TextGridLab tools as well as the evaluation of a browser-based architecture for future development.

WP 2.1: General tools for text-research
WP 2.2: Evaluation of a possible migration of the TextGridLab to a browser-based solution.

WP3 - Structural and organisational sustainability

Responsible Partner: Institute for the German Language, Mannheim

This WP aims to assure the structural and organizational sustainability of TextGrid. A community-specific legal form for integration in the D-Grid business model will be implemented.

WP 3.1: Legal form for TextGrid
WP 3.2: Legal basics

WP4 - Coaching / Community building

Responsible Partner: University of Trier, competence centre for electronic text processing and publication in the humanities

This WP aims to introduce the virtual research infrastructure to academic communities and to assess the specialized needs of target user groups in order to develop an active community of TextGrid users.

WP 4.1: Needs assessment
WP 4.2: Education
WP 4.3:
Community network

WP6 - Professional sustainability

Responsible Partner: University of Würzburg

The WP will advance the prototypes already developed to full productivity because only robust and effective software will satisfy the users. This packet includes the debugging and improvement of existing functionalities based upon the feedback from the general user tests and specific cooperations as well as the implementation of new features and tools, which will be matched with the specific needs of new communities in the arts and humanities. These tools should reach a similar stage of development to the modules developed so far, either through the advancement of already existing components or through the integration of modules originating from TextGrid.

WP 6.1: Generalization, coordination and productivity
WP 6.2: Edition philology
WP 6.3: Linguistics
WP 6.4: History of art
WP 6.5: Classical philology, history
WP 6.6: Music editions
WP 6.7: (free for another new community)
WP 6.8: OCR and image processing of documents

WP8 - Project management, publicity, RI-Liaison

Responsible Partner: Göttingen State and University Library

The intention of this WP is to make sure that the project will achieve all deliverables in time and within the budget frame. This includes the professional and administrative management of the project e.g., the coordination of the working groups already established in TextGrid. Further goals of this WP are the coordination of public relation actions as well as networking with other research infrastructure initiatives and projects (e.g., D-Spin, eAqua, CLARIN, DARIAH, Bamboo, etc.).
